Judith Romero (Veracruz, México, 1976). Lives and works in Oaxaca, Mexico. Romero’s photographic work takes a feminist look at the body, at identities and at the (political) decisions that women make in their social and normative contexts. She documents and builds images that evoke women’s complex realities and imaginaries in different scenarios and contexts. Her photographs have been intervened by textile designers, accomplishing a synthesis of creative photographic and textile techniques.

Romero trained in photographic and digital workshops and courses in the Centro de las Artes de San Agustín (CASA) and in the Centro Fotográfico Manuel Álvarez Bravo (CFMAB), in Oaxaca. She edits and designs periodicals and art books. Her most recent project—“Othered Women” documenting women’s decisions not to have children—was a solo show in the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca (MACO); and has also shown in the Museo de Mujeres Artistas Mexicanas (MUMA); and in the Galería Gronefot and the Biblioteca Nacional in Santiago de Chile. She is co-founder and director of the Resplandor Photography Gallery in Oaxaca.
