Regarding light

Monday, 02 August 2021 20:11 Written by Julia Barco

I have always been aware of light and shadows in the spaces and landscapes around me, and the places I frequent. I am particularly sensitive to the lighting, natural and artificial, of my surroundings.

It is not easy to find words for my attraction to the effects, nuances and transformations light produces. Its presence. Its traces. Its absence. Perhaps what I perceive and feel is related to what James Turrell has said: how this “elixir” of light is what really connects the inmaterial with the material and the cosmos with everyday life. (1)

This attraction, bound to sensations, emotions and an aesthetic sense, has directed my gaze in the last years. More recently I have been discovering some of the artists who créate work – some with, other from- light, and have created photographs in dialogue with them.

Regarding light, is a series in process.
